First blood to Verstappen in FP1

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was quick out of the blocks at the Bahrain Grand Prix by topping the times in FP1. The Dutchman set a time of 1:31.394 which was 0.298 seconds faster than his closest challenger Valtteri Bottas in the Mercedes. The Finnish driver was closely followed by Lando Norris in the McLaren who was just half a second off the benchmark. Practice sessions are 30 minutes shorter than previous seasons with drivers having just 60 minutes to dial in their cars and get used to the tricky sand-covered surface of the Bahrain International Circuit.
