Lewis Hamilton takes Monza victory and championship lead

Lewis Hamilton seized the championship advantage on Sunday in Monza as he claimed a lights to flag victory in the Italian Grand Prix to take a three-point lead over Sebastian Vettel. The Briton was untouchable as he got a great start before driving off into the distance, with victory such a certainty that Mercedes chose to turn his engine down in the final third of the race. Team-mate Valtteri Bottas made it a Mercedes 1-2 as he sliced through from fourth on the grid, putting himself between the two title protagonists as Vettel came home third at Ferrari's home race, more than half a minute down on the lead.
