FIA reveals F1 'shield', set for FP1 test at Silverstone

The FIA has revealed the first picture of the ‘shield’ Formula 1 cockpit protection device, and plans for it to be tested at the British Grand Prix. It has been working for several months on an alternative to the earlier ‘halo’ device, which was tried out in several free practice sessions, and Red Bull’s ‘aeroscreen’. Cockpit protection was set to arrive in 2017 before this was pushed back, in order for more analysis and development to take place.
