Sauber confirm Wehrlein to complete 2017 line-up

Sauber have revealed that Mercedes-backed Pascal Wehrlein will drive for the team for the 2017 season, partnering Marcus Ericsson. The former DTM champion was one of the central figures of Formula One's ‘silly season'. Having originally lost out to Esteban Ocon for a seat at the Force India team, Wehrlein became a front-runner for the vacant Mercedes seat following Nico Rosberg's shock retirement. However, with Mercedes opting instead to pursue Valtteri Bottas, a move to Sauber became the next option after it became clear that Williams would be seeking an experienced driver to replace the Finn.
