F1 to abandon new qualifying format
Formula 1's new elimination style qualifying looks set to be a short-lived experiment after team bosses agreed to abandon the format. Saturday's qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix saw the first run of the elimination format, and it was met with widespread criticism, with the final five minutes of qualifying failing to provide any action. F1 bosses have now acted quickly and decisively on the matter. 'We wanted to improve the show and we went in the wrong direction,' said Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff.
