McLaren drivers felt points were possible in Singapore

Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso believe they should have scored points at the Singapore Grand Prix, after both retiring from the race. The Englishman started from 15th on the grid and lost a position off the line, but gradually made progress as others hit trouble. However, contact with Pastor Maldonado and a gearbox problem meant he failed to finish. 'We should have scored points, and we would have scored points if I hadn’t had contact with Pastor [Maldonado] and we hadn’t had gearbox problems,' he said. 'There’s lots of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’, but the car felt alright to drive, which is a positive. We went very long on our stops, and I was able to look after the tyres well,...
