Pirelli: Teams ignored 2013 tyre guidelines

Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli says stint guidelines it shared in late 2013 were ignored by teams during the Belgian Grand Prix. Ferrari racer Sebastian Vettel slammed Pirelli on Sunday after he suffered a high-speed right-rear tyre failure on the penultimate lap of the Belgian GP, costing him a potential podium spot. It was the German’s 28th lap on the medium compound tyres, as he attempted a one-stop strategy, six more than the 22 laps advised by Pirelli. “In November 2013, Pirelli requested that there should be rules to govern the maximum number of laps that can be driven on the same set of tyres, among other parameters to do with correct tyre usage,” read a Pirelli statement...
