Force India: Marussia F1 proposal 'lacked substance'
Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley has defended the decision taken by Formula One's Strategy Group to reject Marussia's entry with its 2014 car, after the team came under fire for blocking the proposal. Fernley stated there were too many 'compliance issues' and the submission by Marussia 'lacked substance'. The group, consisting of the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone and the leading six teams – Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren, Williams and Force India – met in Paris on Thursday and rejected Marussia's entry for the 2015 season with last year's car, after the team confirmed it would not be able to produce a new car for the first race of the season at Melbourne in March.
