Todt: Nine teams is not a disaster
Should just 18 cars contest next year's Championship, F1 teams will not be forced to run third cars, says FIA president Jean Todt.
Although both Caterham and Marussia have submitted entries for the 2015 F1 Championship, both teams are in doubt.
The duo, who went into administration this year, are seeking new buyers and unless someone comes to the party, F1 will be down to just nine teams.
That means the FIA can ask teams, reportedly starting with Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren, to run third cars. Motorsport's governing body just needs to give them a minimum of 60 days notice.
Todt, though, says the FIA won't be doing that.
