Rosberg storms to Suzuka pole

Nico Rosberg will start the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying. Lewis Hamilton missed out by two tenths, with Valtteri Bottas completing the top three. In warm and dry conditions, despite the approaching Typhoon Phanfone, Q1 got under way. Kamui Kobayashi, Nico Hulkenberg and Jules Bianchi were the first to take to the track, with the former putting in the opening lap time – a 1:37.977 – on the medium compound tyre. Rosberg and Hamilton, driving his repaired W05 after crashing in third practice, took to the track with 15 minutes of the session remaining.
